Beyond Sunday

Surfside Church is a growing family full of diversity. Church was never meant to be a place for spectators. It’s where we come together to praise God, seek God, support and encourage one another in life. Church is where we gather to strengthen and grow so we can scatter back into our respective spheres of influence equipped to be the difference and to shine bright for Christ.

Doing life well together is a whole lot more than a brief church encounter on a Sunday. We were born to journey through the mountain tops and valleys together in a strong faith community that bears with one another’s burdens and weaknesses. Seriously having fun in the faith means being connected beyond Sunday. Iron sharpens iron – we are good for each other. It’s easy to build connections where diversity is valued and different personalities are allowed to bring colour to the church family. We are generational. We value our children as the life of the church, our youth as the leaders of tomorrow, our adults as the strength and maturity of the House and our elders as the wisdom and grace of the fellowship. We love family. All ages. All personalities. All giftings and abilities. With that in mind, connecting is easy:

Midweek Small Groups

We have a growing number of midweek small groups. Some are pure bible study, others are shared-interest and some are a mixture of social connection and bible study. Getting connected midweek revitalises and refreshes us. We laugh, we eat, we hang out, we play and we learn from the Word together. Small groups ensure everyone is involved which is key to growing in the faith. Strong ties and friendships are often born in these life-giving environments.

Sometimes it’s social for fun, sometimes it’s thanksgiving dinner, sometimes its coffee in the park, sometimes it’s prayer time, sometimes it’s combined sisters events across the coast, sometimes it’s Colour your World conference at Hillsong, sometimes its just the movies. Blessed to be a blessing, our women’s ministry is expansive by nature and is all about friendship, life inspiration, laughter, support, faith education and personal empowerment to equip women with the capacity and wisdom to live this life with joy, peace and fruitfulness across every facet of life. Dreams are born here, restored here and realised here. Sisterhood in life is powerful. Our women’s ministry is about simple and authentic sisterhood and forever bringing new friends into the fold. Women’s ministry here is about flourishing in life, drawing strength from collective wisdom and having a lot of fun. We are generational and we are better together.

The men of the church are soon to have their own boys only midweek group where they do what blokes do, talk sport, bond, eat and laugh together. It’s also where they study the Word and deal head on with issues men face in every arena of life. The boys aren’t big on words but mateship, accountability and integrity matter to them. They’re notorious for wild adventures like missions trips at the drop of a hat and wild 4WD camps. Barbarians at heart, getting involved here is a great way to build your faith and strengthen your resolve in your walk with God. This is rubber meets the road stuff where keeping it real is not an option. If you dare. Join us.

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” [1 Thessalonians 5:16-17]. Along with lots of impromptu and casual prayer get togethers here there and everywhere, we have a Friday morning weekly prayer, worship and communion meeting where we pray for our church and for the Kingdom of Heaven to touch the lives of those in our community and across the earth. With Christians from churches all over the coast meeting each Friday, this is a great environment that breaks down boundaries and walls and brings the local church together in a spirit of prayer and thankfulness. We maintain a strong culture of prayer in our daily lives with prayer a foundational pillar of the church. Prayer is something we believe every Christian can do and every Christian is called to. The Bible tells us that the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much [James 5:16], and that we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus [2 Corinthians 5:21]. Prayer works. We dig it. Get along whenever you can. Contact us for details.
